My Story
I learnt the hard way just how important good nutrition is. After decades of chronic stress and poor eating habits, I was diagnosed with Lupus and a collection of other autoimmune conditions. Something had to change.
I knew that if I didn’t address the core of my health concerns, rather than just treating the symptoms, I would never regain my health. So began my journey into nutrition. The more I educated myself, the more I understood the bond between what we put into our bodies and how they function.
Now, having implemented my nutrition training into my own life, life couldn’t be better. I believe that my personal experience enhances my ability to understand, empathise and help you find your own path towards a healthier, happier life.
My Nutrition Philosophy
My life’s passion is to help people bring about change in their lives through the dietary and lifestyle choices they make. My focus is based around the six nutritional foundations:·
digestion
blood sugar regulation
fatty acid balance
hydration
mineral balance
a properly prepared, nutrient-dense, whole-foods diet
The goal is to optimise these foundation to obtain greater health and vitality. This is achieved by focusing on a nutrient dense, real food diet and implementing positive lifestyle changes.
More importantly, I take the hard work out of making healthy choices. As part of the consultation process, we will discuss:·
How you can discover simple, delicious whole foods in their natural form
Why you don’t need to fear healthy fat
The benefits of avoiding processed foods (especially trans fats,
hydrogenated fats and vegetable oils)How you can reconnect with your body’s innate wisdom about
what it needs
Tailored Plans: The Bio-individual
My philosophy is also centered around the fact that there is no one size fits all
when it comes to obtaining a healthy life.
We are all individuals, with different nutritional needs.
I want you to achieve optimal health for the long term, which means
considering your current circumstances, challenges, environment,
lifestyle, bodily strengths and weaknesses.
What is Functional Nutritional Therapy?
As a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) I am trained
to evaluate a client’s bio-individual needs,
identify nutritional deficiencies and support normal function.
My role is to help you discover the underlying issues affecting your health
(using non-invasive evaluation techniques), and to make recommendations about
dietary changes, lifestyle considerations and targeted nutritional supplementation
based on a systematic, functional approach.
I’m a strong believer in utilising functional lab tests to provide objective data on which to base client recommendations and to track progress. I regularly use GI mapping, food sensitivity testing, blood chemistry testing, hormone testing and HTMA mineral balance testing in my practice.
FNTPs may work alongside licensed practitioners to support a doctor's diagnosis and other therapies. However, an FNTP is not trained to provide a medical diagnosis, to prescribe or treat any medical or pathological condition, illness, injury or disease, and is not a replacement for a medical doctor.
